it’s a matter of convenience

Holding off on this next music post has been tough. Why bother? Good question. I’m trying to keep it to one per week or less. I went on this rant about doing things my way earlier today though and now I’m putting senseless limits on myself. Stay tuned for the startling conclusion.

I really can’t get enough Kings of Convenience. Their site was recently hacked so there’s nothing up there of any substance right now. Don’t bother, although maybe keep an eye open. I dunno, up to you.

Their second album Riot on an Empty Street showed up on my playlist maybe a year ago or so. Mmm, it was before the wedding because I remember wanting to use one of their songs in the slideshow but it didn’t work out. I think my brother, Alex, turned me on to them originally and I would describe them as a modern day S&G with dueling harmonies and catchy guitar riffs. The disc is 100% playable but my favorites are presented in video form below.

For whatever reason they appear to have some sort of YouTube gestapo outlawing embedding, but signal…. talk hard. All that.

Strangely, as an aside, Alex sent me a video he took featuring this song and I gave it the same treatment as the official video, having never seen it. And having not asked if I could cut up his video either. We’ve yet to wrestle in the yard over it so I assume it’s cool. This was my first crack at video editing so…. it’s bad. But I like the final cut to black a lot.

I’m surprised I haven’t addressed the subject of cars really in this space yet other than to trash the Cayenne promo. They’re something I can get pretty worked up about as well. But ah, KoC….

Misread is the one I wanted to use in the wedding slide show but lyrically it didn’t really work and also it’s a bit short. I’ve listened the shit out of that disc but it pales in comparison to the new one. As my KoC obsession has grown over the last week or so since I purchased the new disc I’ve come to realize that the bespectacled dude has lent his voice to such favorite jams as Royksopp’s Remind Me to name one. This is a remix but I dig the video. So I’ve unknowingly been enjoying the soothing sounds of KoC for a long time now.

The new disc is called Declaration of Dependence and I suggest you secure it immediately if the above content does anything for you in the slightest. If not, stop reading and kindly excuse yourself, sir and/or madam. That’s how it is on this one, my friend. I am as fixated as I can personally spare at the moment on this.

Sharing any track from this disc would do but this is definitely my favorite;

  1. Wow, the signal was lost on the first video. Bad times. I’ve redirected my dish and found a new one.
